NEW PAL MEMBER : RAPHAEL BRAUN

    Another new member this week for the PAL version of SMK!! Raphael Braun, currently #1 in Switzerland found the site and is improving his times to reach even higher standards. So far he has reached Elite C overall standard and a #14 placing on the PAL Players' List. He has also announced that there will be two more of his friends wanting to enter sometime soon. We look forward to hearing from them!

STAN DEFENDS HIS TITLE AND HITS LEGEND C!!!

    Stanley Jeram has done some amazing Karting this week as a result of nearly two Karters taking his #1 position. Stan managed to keep ahead of the field with some super PRs and WRs along the way!! Every course he touched this week he made some great times that lowered his standards quite a bit!! BC1 went nicely and 1'28" looks possible very soon, CI1 Stan tried to use my strategy from the video file on the last corner and was successful. He may be going for Kevin's WRs there pretty soon. After Michael Liem's superb attempt, Stan went on to GV2 to set a great 5-lap WR with a 5/5 jump!! More WRs followed as he set off to DP2 to improve to some super fast times. KB1 and CI2 were Stan's slightly weaker courses for a while, but some great cuts off his PRs there for now, double GOD times on VL1! Lastly, Stan has also killed off a small weakness on BC3. Together, this puts Stan at an SR below 3.000 to make him the first Legend C ever on NTSC SMK, and he still holds the #1 position!!

LOUIS-PHILIPPE SABBAGH ON FIRE!!!

    Louis-Philippe made some impressive PRs and WRs this week that would have put him in third place if Stan hadn't improved. Louis-Philippe is now also three points from becoming a Legend C player, over this whole month has been a very fast improving player! He has taken Antonio Abdo's WR on MC1 fastlap this week opening up more possibility for a sub 1'00" 5-lap time!! It wasn't only 1 WR he made, it was 6 in total including an even faster MC2 1-lap time, some super WRs on VL2 and a sub 1'10" and an improved lap on CI2!! Many other PRs also included! Louis-Philippe Sabbagh is now ranked in 2nd Place on the NTSC Players' List!!

MICHAEL LIEM TRYING TO REGAIN #1

    Michael Liem nearly took Stan's #1 title back this week as a result of his PRs!!! The GV2 5-lap was also a WR when it was driven, but this was taken back by Stan later. Many SR points were taken off here!! Michael also drove a new GV3 1-lap PR which had previously been the same PR since 1997! He may be able to improve this course more soon! As Michael was passed by Louis-Philippe Sabbagh this week, this leaves Michael at #3 on NTSC, but his SR is getting further into Legend D and on the way to Legend C now!

JANUARY 2001

    What else can I say about January 2001, apart from AMAZING!!!! This must have been one of the most active months ever at SMK!! The best players from around the world are battling it out on many courses setting superb new WRs, plus many new members to the site.

KEVIN BOOTH'S CRAZY KARTING WEEK!!

    Kevin Booth is the Top Karter of this week as he has made a great set of improvements on many courses and has kept a streak going!! He has improved on his weaker times, hit the jump on GV2, made new GOD times and a new WR!! All of this contributed to him passing Travis Nelson, a former NTSC World Champion from Late 1997 till 2000. Kevin Booth nearly reached Legend E all the way from Legend G and this makes him #5 in the World on NTSC!! This will mean that the players in front have a challenge coming their way soon!!

LIEM PASSES SABBAGH & HITS LEGEND C NEAR JERAM

    Michael Liem has had a great week this week with 3 new WRs!!! Those are on BC1 lap, GV2 lap (a great corner jump made) and DP3 lap!! The DP3 racing was a great success for Liem as he had some difficulty there previously, then hit some nice 5-lap times and a 1'21". Afterwards followed a super lap that was the WR, nearly a GOD time!! Liem taking the WR on BC1 1-lap made Samuel Aubry lose his last WR. Some great times were also made on KB2. Michael's SR went below 3.000 putting him back up to 2nd Place ahead of Louis-Philippe Sabbagh and right behind Stanley Jeram. It looks as though Michael Liem is able to take the title back once more!!

GERARD RETURNS AND HITS LEGEND F!!

    It has been a while since Gerard Roodhorst had last played SMK and he has this week returned with 13 new PRs, two more after that were previous PRs which were meant to be put up, but the times last sent were a bit slower. So that makes 15 new PRs for this week!  Some super MC1 and MC3 driving, MC1 5-lap even beats Edwin!! Gerard is now catching Steven Zwartjes, when he does he will become the next PAL Champion of Netherlands! Gerard remains in 3rd Place but has cut a lot off the SR to put him at Legend F overall standard!

STAN GOES SUB 1'20" ON DP3!!!

    Stan has played Donut Plains 3 more this week in order to close in to the GOD times. He is really getting there now as he perfects this course more. He has managed to break the 1'20" barrier on NTSC there as a result!! A very consistent race was driven with 15 second laps becoming regular. Stan's SR has gone further down into Legend C and he remains the NTSC Champion!! Stan has also announced this week that he will be busy over the next few months with School and may not be as active in PR'ing during this time.

BRIAN GALLO KILLS DP2 WEAKNESS!

    Brian Gallo is back once again and has managed to sort out DP2 a great amount with the correct strategy. He will be back for more there and on any other weak courses. Once all these are sorted, Brian will join the Legends! He has moved up to King C passing David Wonn and Antonio Abdo for #7 on NTSC Overall!!

LOUIS-PHILIPPE SABBAGH : IMPORTANT CHANGE IN RANK!

    NTSC Karter, Louis-Philippe Sabbagh had informed us this week that his SR score was incorrect, after recalculation, it showed that his SR was actually 2.700!! This makes Louis-Philippe Sabbagh Legend C by overall standard and a few points ahead of Michael Liem and Stanley Jeram!!

    So there we have it, Louis-Phiilippe Sabbagh has been NTSC World Champion since he last played, congratulations!!!

RAPHAEL BRAUN PASSES TWO PLAYERS!!

    Raphael Braun, #1 PAL Karter from Switzerland has made a number of PRs which have cut his SR Score greatly!! Improvements on the VLs and DPs were great including many other great PRs!     Nicolas Clementy, PAL Karter and Champion of France has tried this week to make PRs to get the SR into the Legends! So far he has moved the SR much closer and could be making Legend very soon!     Michael Liem has made 3 nice PRs this week, all on the Ghost Valleys. His GV1 fastlap is slowly inching its way towards Gallo's Lap WR. Michael has managed to improve his 5-lap PR on GV3 made in 1997 to a great WR, passing Travis there! This leaves Travis Nelson with only one WR left (Rainbow 5-lap). Michael is currently in 3rd Place, and his SR is a point behind Stanley Jeram, getting very close also to Louis-Philippe Sabbagh, NTSC World Champion! This will be an interesting battle to continue next week.

GERARD ROODHORST BECOMES PAL CHAMPION OF NETHERLANDS

    Gerard has made a few PRs this week that have lowered his SR to pass Steven Zwartjes!! He is now the new PAL Dutch Champion and is closing in on Legend E!! The highlight of his improvements this week were his amazing KB2 times! He hit a low 1'05" and an amazing lap record!! They are pretty close to the PAL WRs, so we will see what happens here next time he plays KB2!

STANLEY JERAM IMPROVES MC4 5-LAP WR!

    Stanley Jeram had a bit of time this week to play Mario Circuit 4 in order to improve the WR and break into the sub 1'40" region which can be made by many more players soon. He hit a 1'39" time with a fairly consistent race and tied his fastlap! Definitely more room left here, and a new Lap WR will probably be made sometime soon aswell! Stan doesn't have any SR change this week, he is currently in #2 position on the NTSC Players' List as Louis-Philippe has taken 1st Place.

STRANGE LINK ERRORS

    Some of you may have noticed that the links for the NTSC Mushroom Cup Top Times Tables take you to a diferent page, and also that Antonio Abdo's link for some reason takes you back to the main page. I have checked up on this to find out why. It is possible that Geocities might have some problem and that is why the link is sort of messed up. I have a plan on what to do next week if the problem continues, but for this week, I deleted the link and re-done it again to see if it is ok. I will check up next week as I said if that fails to work.

        Michael Liem has made 4 PRs this week that have helped him to pass Jeram and Sabbagh!! An MC1 fastlap PR happened which has been 3 years or so since the 0'11"96 PR was made. DP2 potential is showing for the fastlap more now which opens up greater possibility on the 5-lap. GV2 WR correction from last week was also made as Michael Liem has that WR tie now with Jeram. Michael Liem has taken 1st Place back on NTSC to once again be the NTSC World Champion!

    Nicolas Clementy was a very active Karter this week as he hit 17 superb PRs with many Legend times and two GOD times!! JOSEPH HURTGEN REACHES KING C

    Joseph Hurtgen has made some great advances on Ghost Valley 2 and Koopa Beach 2 this week, with both the 5-lap times being in the 1'03"s! A KB2 1-lap GOD time was also made that altogether along with an MC1 PR dropped his SR below the mark to reach the King C overall standard. Now only 1 point behind David Wonn, and close to more players, at #10 Joseph Hurtgen is ready to make more of his times towards Legend status to reach higher overall standards!

MISSING THE TARGET

    After months of not PRing I picked up the controller to sort some things out on Donut Plains 3. I am still aiming for a sub 1'20" time, which is a pretty crazy thing to do on PAL. After trying a while, I hit 1'20"47. I know I can really make things fast, but only if I can put some of my best potential all together in 5 laps. I have potential down to about 1'19"53 or so, according to the fastest laps I have made. In the end a new PR happened after about 30 or 40 mins. Sadly, it wasn't a sub 1'20", although I did get it to tape (previous taped one on the files was around 1'20"9x). I would have preferred taping a nice 1'19" time, but I can't expect everything to work out how I wanted it to all at once.

ROODHORST GOING FOR KB2 5-LAP WR??

    Gerard Roodhorst, PAL SMK Champion of Netherlands has tried KB2 again this week in order to make some faster times as he sees more potential left. This week he landed on a sub 1'05" time (GOD) and with potential still left, is in possibility of taking the PAL WR!!
