AGREEMENT OF SUBJECT AND VERB 

Most sentences name a subject and then describe an action involving that subject. For example, The duck is quacking. In this sentence the duck is the subject and is quacking describes the action. The subject of a sentence must always agree with its verb in number. If the subject is singular, then the verb must be singular. Similarly, a plural subject must take a plural verb.

For example  :
Single subject and verb = The duck is quacking

Plural subject and verb  = The ducks are quacking. 

1.Use is or are to complete these sentences.

2.The past tense-was and were.

¨                    We use was when we are talking about one person or thing, for example, The girl was in the shop.

¨                    We use were when talking about more than one person or thing, for example, The girls were in the gymnasium
