LICORICE

Licorice Plant

Licorice (glycyrrhiza glabra), best known as an antiulcer drug, is also an antibacterial, a powerful decay-preventive (as in tooth decay) and an effective anti-inflammatory. When made into a tea it can be used to soothe sore throats, coughs and asthma. Safe in moderate use (three cups of tea a day), too much may trigger headaches, water retention and high blood pressure. Duke, an asthmatic, reports he uses a piece of the dried root to stir his herbal tea. just this occasional use is enough to keep his asthma under control.
