Milk Thistle (silybum marinum) is a well-known liver-protective herb. Liver protectors are beneficial to anyone who drinks alcohol, smokes, takes drugs including legal ones, or comes in contact with pollutants -- and most of us do. The liver processes drugs, alcohol and toxins so it's under constant siege in our contemporary world. Milk thistle is also the top choice for all kinds of liver ailments such as hepatitis (inflammation of the liver caused by infection or toxins), cirrhosis (a chronic disease of the liver) and even mushroom poisoning. Silymarin, the active ingredient, is also helpful in gall bladder disease. The standard dose of milk thistle is based on its silymarin content. Murray recommends a standard dose of 7 0 mg. to 210 mg. (silymarin) three times a day. Hypoglycemia |
