Ivory Piano Bar

We did not discover the Piano Bar until Wed. night of our cruise. And what a shame! It is a fun place. As you can see in the photo above the piano sits on a raised platform with a bar all around it and extending down the room some. There are also lots of cozy little booths and tables scattered around the bar. There are catalogs at the bar. I believe the catalog listed 750 songs that this particular piano man had in his repertoire. You would write the song you wanted him to sing on a cocktail napkin and give it to the bartender. The bartender would throw it onto the piano. Then the piano man would choose a napkin and play and sing your song. And everyone can sing along! Plus there are tambourines, marachas, etc. scattered along the bar so that you can play along also. That's the basics of the piano bar. Now let me tell you about Augustin. He was the piano man on the Pride when we went. He is very personable and talented. His playing was wonderful. And he could sing pretty well also. But what I loved most about him was his sense of humour! He loved interacting with the audience. The bartender was also very funny. He and Augustin would banter back and forth also. The best place to sit is up at the bar. But if that's full sitting in the booths or tables was enjoyable also. I loved picking out obscure songs for him. He had a WIDE range of songs in his book. I have heard good things about other piano players on other ships also. So my advice is to look up the Piano Bar. I had never been to one but I will certainly be seeking them out in the future! Great fun!
