The First Shard
Chap #6

Authors Note: Hey y’all! I’ve gone and decided the form that I’ve been writing my fic in. I’m not gonna do that whole deal with the name then what they say and all that crud. This new way, I think, flows a little bit more smoothly, it’s easier to write too, more describing power, ya know. Well I hope you enjoy!

A tiger demon, that’s all it was, Inu Yasha was thinking to himself as the walked down the hill to fight it along with the others.

“This ought’a be a piece of cake.”

“Heh, I think you’re right, Inu Yasha, we can take this thing no problem!” said Sango as she readied her Hirakoutsu. (did I spell that right?)

“ Kagome, can you see where the shard you sensed earlier is?” asked Miroku.

“ Yeah, it’s-” she never got a chance to finish her sentence. As she began to speak the great tiger lunged straight for her.

“ AAAAHHHHHHHH!” she screamed.

“Kagome!”

Inu Yasha lunged forward, drawing Tetsuiga as he did. He made it, just in time. As he landed in front of Kagome, he jumped up again and hauled Tetsuiga up over his head and brought it, crashing down, onto the demon’s forehead. The tiger roared in pain, it’s humongus head nearly split in two.

’Well, that was easy’ thought Inu Yasha.

“Aw, Inu Yasha! You didn’t even save some for us!” cried Miroku.

Hakari emerged from the hut to be confronted with an amazing sight. Inu Yasha had just killed the tiger demon and Miroku was saying something to him that made them all laugh. As the group turned and started walking back up to the hut Hakari saw something they couldn’t. Behind them, the demon's head began to piece itself back together. The demon stood up and shook itself and began charging right at them.

“WATCH OUT BEHIND YOU!” she screamed.

The group whipped around the see it coming. Inu Yasha grabbed Kagome and jumped out of the beast’s way. Miroku threw himself out its path. A startled Sango started running but tripped and fell.

“AAHHH!”

“Sango!” Miroku shouted. “I’m coming!”

Miroku ran to her and grabbed her up in his arms and began to run. The tiger was to fast though; it slashed Miroku across the back, cutting him deeply. He stumbled and collapsed on top of Sango, blood oozing from the large slash marks on his back.

“Miroku? Miroku?!” Sango tries to wake him but he won’t even open his eyes. ‘Oh God, his breathing is so shallow.’ She felt along his back and felt the tremendous amount of blood. ‘Oh Miroku, don’t die!’ she thought.

“Miroku! Sango! Inu Yasha, you have to help them!” Kagome cried.

“I’m on it!”

Inu Yasha dashed forward and shouted at the tiger demon, trying to distract it from his friends. “Hey, over here stupid!”

The demon swung it’s head around and darted after Inu Yasha, forgetting Miroku and Sango completely.

“Inu Yasha! The jewel, it’s in the demon’s chest!”

Inu Yasha drew Tetsuiga and swung at the demon’s head. What happened next shocked Inu Yasha. It bit it, the tiger opened its mouth and clamped its huge jaws around the fang and didn’t let go. Remembering the last time something bit his sword, he quickly withdrew and resheathed his sword. He landed and attempted to get out of the way, but he was swatted across the clearing by the demon’s paw.

“ARGH!” he cried.

“Inu Yasha, NO!”

All of the sudden something darted by Kagome and Inu Yasha coming to a stop in front of the demon. It was Hakari.

“Idiot!” Inu Yasha exclaimed. “ You’ll be killed!” he said as he attempted to get up. He only collapsed from the pain in his back though. Kagome ran to his side.

“Kagome, this jewel thing, it’s in the demon’s chest?”

“Uh, yeah.” Kagome said and nodded from her place by Inu Yasha.

“Alright then, here goes.”

Hakari sprinted forward towards the demon, every bit as fast as Inu Yasha. The tiger brought its huge claws down on Hakari; she dodged quickly to the side as its paw slammed into the ground creating a huge crater. She propelled herself forward, her clawed hands extended. She hit the demon square in the chest. Not only hit it, but straight into the demons chest.

“Holy crap!” Inu Yasha said aloud.
“Hakari?” said Kagome.

The demon looked rather stricken. All of the sudden there was a muffled cry from within the tiger’s chest. The tiger imploded and chunks and pieces flew everywhere. In the middle of it all stood Hakari, blood soaked but triumphant, grasping something in her right hand. She holds up her right hand, revealing a sizeable piece of the Shikon No Tama in-between thumb and forefinger.

“Got it.” She said, grinning.
