Tasks:
You are responsible for reading the Medieval ballads "Lord Randall," "Edward, Edward," and "Get Up and Bar the Door" from pages 91-94 of your text.
Research the following website and identify the characteristics of ballads in your Middle Ages journal: http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/ballads/early_child/
After class discussion of your findings and their applications to the ballads in your text, identify with your group any modern songs that include some of the characteristics of ballads. Identify at least two and their characteristics. Present these to the rest of the class, using the songs you chose.
Your group should create an original ballad. Your ballad should follow the characteristics you have identified. Be sure to check the evaluation section for the grading criteria. If you need extra guidance, refer to Ballads: Popular Poetry on page 96 of your text or The Saddest Story on page 97.
