Welcome to Victorian Fishing 'Fish Facts'. Each area has
information on that particular species concerning Habitat's,
Peak Times, Legal Requirements, Qualities, Tackle
Requirements and Best Baits.

Size:
Small - to 4 - 5kg
Best Baits:
Yozuri and Razor Back squid jigs and fresh KG or Silver Whiting on double barb stainless steel jigs.
Habitat:
Squid like the clear waters of Souther Port Phillip Bay. Each year they enter just before the snapper and spawn over the patchy sand, weed and rock bottoms. But squid can change colour and adapt to any environment. When you're fishing for them u can either cast and retrive jigs, or suspend baits under floats on stailness jigs.
Tackle:
          * Line: 4-6kg
          * Hooks:
          * Reel: Shimano Stradics
          * Rig: Tie a snap swivel directly to the end of the line and attach the jig to that. That is just for convinience when changing colours and baits of jigs.
Quality: Squid are up there in eating quality to Whiting and Gummy Shark. Although the added bonus it has is another excellent fresh bait for anything including snapper, gummy sharks, mulloway, kingfish and just about anything inbetween. Squid are an aggresive yet picky predator and can be very choosy when selecting baits and colours of jigs to grab. So take a variety of fresh baits and an assortment of coloured jigs.
