Reaching Out As I lay here in the darkness Listening to my pumping heart The silence is almost deafening And darkness plays her part I feel so small Like a ship lost at sea Resting in the palm of despair But I take solace in knowing My strength sleeps beside me She's always been there Like an angel sent to guide me You took my hand from the demons who tried me And washed away the self-doubt Cutting the ties that were dragging me down Now I am right where I need to be Happy with the man who I became I slow danced with the Devil To the sounds of his seductive band But you saved me from my destiny Just by reaching out your hand As the darkness gives way to the glow From the street light I can see you laying there on your side The curves of your body are like art work And I need you to know I love you so much It sometimes hurts The wind blows the curtains to allow more light I can see the magnitude of your love and sorrow Tattooed to remember your happiness and pain For once I reflect on your stories of past tomorrow's As I am reaching for your hand © Donnie James, 2004 North Carolina |
