Game 1: W 12-0

Player of the Game: Cory Funk

Grad Students from CSB and Biochemistry decided to come together in the quest for two prizes: Respect and a Championship. After last year's disaster, the team decided to change their name to the Gangsters of Love and to recruit former student and current U of I staff member Dan "Asian Blurr" Pan.

Under the dark clouds and with only a hour before game time, captain Dave Yu took charge. He quickly assigned where everyone was going to play and with the assistance of Cory Funk, devised unique formations and plays. After 30 minutes of practice, the team was ready to go into battle against the Law Students (Section C).

The Gangsters of Love used a smoothering defense and ball control offense to turn this much hyped matchup into an ugly mistmatch. The frontline of Jake, Bill, Dave, and Dan constantly push pressure on Section C's quaterback with countless and rentless rushes, making him throw arid passes, which were repeatedly knocked down by Joshua Stender, completely throwing off their passing attack Their receivers were constantly shadowed by Cory Funk and Neil Kitchen, which usually resulted in numerous interceptions, three by Cory and two by Neil. "They came at us in every way imaginable. There's nothing positive about how we played. We were outplayed. Their defense came out and caused many problems." said their quarterback. "I didn't have much of a chance. I was running around for my life. We couldn't get any rhythm going. I could feel that our offensive line didn't feel good about those guys, especially the guy with the glasses named Dan. Once I got the ball, he had already faked out and gotten pass two of my offensive lineman." Dan doesn't agree. "Even though my teammates called me Julius Peppers, Rolling Thunder, Warren Sapp, and gave me a cheering section, I did nothing. I stood around, eating hamburgers in the defensive huddle thinking about what kind of ice cream I was going to have later on after the football game."

The offensive fed from the defense's aggressive play. The offensive line which composed of Greg, Vince, and Travis had no weakness. Each side of the ball was solid. They gave quarerback George Glekas all day to throw which resulted in two touchdowns. Their lateral movement gave the Section C's defensive lineman all kinds of fits which resulted in them getting extremely frustrated. The receivers, Ik-ro, Stan, and Rudi were constantly covered. With the time George had to throw, he always had the option of running. However, when his receivers were open, George always tried to get the ball to them, even if it meant threading the needle. "Our offense is pretty balanced. Any of our receivers can be the top receiver of any of the teams we are facing." Vince said. I don't think we ever relied on just one person. This year we have so many weapons."
