Game 1: D 0-0

Player of the Game: Mike Kandianis

In the first match, the Pikes and the Blitzkriegs battled to a draw.

The Blitzkriegs came out with their backs against the wall. The Pikes dominted the possession early and pushed forward, always looking to attack. However, clear scoring chances were hard to come by. The defense led by Hendrik and Cathy gave the Pikes attackers fits. Their defensive play caused the Pikes attackers to adjust their shot, which resulted the ball in going over the crossbar, wide of the post, or just being kicked out of bounces. When the Pikes did manage to get a clean shot off, Mike was there to block it. Every shot that the Pikes sent at him, Mike was up to the challenge, stopping shots from all angles.

The Blitzkriegs had trouble keeping the ball in the Pikes' end of the field. The midfielders which composed of Ingrid and George started to frustrated the Pikes as the game went along. They orchestrated the counter-attacks. Ingrid made many of the Pikes look silly with her mind boggling dribbling skills and her crisp passes to Jake or Emily. George wasn't phased by the Pikes either, playing physical with them, making them work hard for everything while creating attacking opportunities for strikers. The team got some energy from their subs, Dan, Joe and Tim. All fo them started to rush forward from their midfield and defensive positions, creating offense for the team, which led to some scoring chances. It was from that point on that the Pikes began to respect the Blitzkriegs' offense.

After a grueling match, the two teams finished a draw. With this draw, the Blitzkriegs felt confident that they could win their next match, feeling like they could take on any team in the tournament. (In the end, Pikes made it to the Championship game.)
