Game 2: L 0-1

Player of the Game: Ingrid, Brigette, and Amy

Playing to a draw last week, the Blitzkriegs needed a win to move into the second round of the U of I soccer tournament. After being informed that his friend Joe Agostonelli, midfielder Emily Keane couldn't make it, Dan told his friend and star player Ingrid Kraus to recruit some of her friends to come play soccer for the team.

The teams established a physical tone to the match early with hard tackles becoming a common sight. Both teams attacked pretty aggressively, moving the ball through the midfield with short, quick passes. The first chance of the match fell to Tim O"hara who did well to swivel and shoot from an angle, but he shot the ball wide. The Blitzkriegs came back with a near miss after when Brigette firing just wide of the right post.

The Blitzkriegs had a period of substained pressure in the middle of the half but they failed on several occassions to take advantage when Amy and Brigette received the ball in dangerous positions only to be dispossessed by the defense before they could shoot. Striker Jake Vick came close to getting the game's first goal shorrtly after halftime, but he could not get enough of his foot on the ball to direct it on goal from close range. A minute later, Jake made a wonder first touch to control a long ball from Dan, but his wild shot flew over the crossbar. After some fancy work on the left wing, Ingrid sent a ball in that eventually made its way to Amy who shook off two defenders with a cut to her left, fired her shot, but sailed wide left of the goal.

Realizing that time was running out, Dan decided to move Mike, who are playing goalie, up to the striker position and put Tim back to goalie. This plan backfired. One of the opposing players managed to slip pass the Blitzkriegs' defense, had his shot blocked by Tim, however, Tim was unable to grab the ball, which allowed the opposing player to get the rebound. He made no mistake with the second try, slipping the ball pass Tim, just inside the far post.

After the goal, the Blitzkriegs quickly rushed forward, sending nine players up to attack. A flurry of chances occurred, however they were not able to muster out a goal as time expired.
