Vicky first met Ryan Harrison when he rescued her from a runaway horse in 1990.  However, the two did not have much to do with each other until the summer of 1991 after Vicky returned from Switzerland, where she had spent a couple of months with her sister Marley.

When Vicky returned to Bay City, Ryan was on medical leave from his job at the police force because of a gunshot wound.  The two were very different from one another - Vicky was wild and mischievous, while Ryan was a by-the-book kind of guy.  This is perhaps what attracted them to each other, but also what created some problems early in their relationship.

Ryan asked her to go to work for his brother Grant's senate campaign. Grant was immediately attracted to her and set out to steal her from his brother.

The couple had grown quite close when Ryan started having problems with Carl Hutchins.  Fearing that Vicky was in danger,

That fall, Ryan proposed to Vicky at the train tressel, their special meeting place, and she happily accepted.  Early in 1992, Vicky and Grant started becoming closer.  Of course, this made Ryan extremely jealous, which, in turn, caused Vicky to feel very trapped in the couple's relationship.  Grant continually badgered Vicky into thinking Ryan wasn't the man for her.  Taken in by Grant's powerful, exciting lifestyle, she eventually had a one-night

stand with him in April. Vicky immediately realized that she'd made a mistake and tried to cover up the affair, but it was too late.  When Ryan found out, he was devastated, and broke off the engagement.  At the same time, he was wrongly charged with the murder of a man named Rick Madison.  Believing Carl Hutchins was the real killer, Ryan escaped from jail to track down Carl.  While on the run, he discovered that Carl was actually his father, and hit rock bottom. Vicky worked all summer to get Ryan back, but to no avail. Grant was right there, still trying to convince Vicky that he was the right man for her. Eventually, the two got

engaged. Ryan was still in love with her and was distraught at the thought of Vicky marrying his brother, but his pride stopped him from acting on his feelings.  The wedding took place with Ryan right there, feining happiness for the new couple. For their honeymoon, Grant took Vicky to Banff, Alberta, Canada, determined to make her forget about Ryan.  But on their wedding night, Vicky was kidnapped by Carl Hutchins. Ryan flew up to Canada to help look for her, and he finally found her almost frozen to

death in the mountains.  The two took shelter in a nearby ice cave.  Alone together, and thinking they were going to die, they gave in to their passion and made love. When they woke up the next morning, Ryan told her he wanted her back, but Vicky was determined to make her marriage to Grant a success, and the two agreed never to tell anyone about what had happened in the cave. Eventually guilt got to her, and Vicky admitted the affair to Grant several months later. Even though Vicky was trying to make her marriage work, Grant knew that inside she still loved Ryan, and he became obsessed with keeping the two apart.

When Vicky began having dreams about her kidnapping, she and Ryan worked together to figure out who the kidnapper was.  When Ryan went up to Canada to look for clues, Vicky feared he was in danger and she followed him and was kidnapped again.

Ian Rain, an enemy of Ryan's father, wanted a special key from Ryan, so he kidnapped Vicky. Ian never intended to hurt her, but he knew that Ryan was in love with her and would give him the key in exchange for Vicky. Ian took Vicky back to the cave, and Ryan showed up moments later. After a calm agreement, Ian was about to hand Vicky over to

Ryan when a panicked Grant showed up. Thinking that the kidnapper was going to hurt his wife, Grant fired a bullet at Ian, but it hit Vicky instead. While Vicky lay in a coma in the hospital, Ryan realized how stupid he'd been for letting his pride get in the way. He decided he wanted her back, and told Grant that when she woke up, he would tell her how he really felt about her. After hearing Vicky whisper Ryan's name as she began to awake from her coma, Grant knew that once Vicky found out that Ryan still loved her, she would leave him and get back together with Ryan.

Determined to keep Ryan away from his wife, Grant whisked Vicky away during the middle of the night to a secluded rehabilitation center in Switzerland.  When she awoke from the coma, Grant told her Ryan had shot her. Becoming homesick, she told Grant she wanted to go home and let Ryan know that she forgave him for shooting her. But he was desperate to keep Vicky and Ryan apart, and he continually made excuses to keep her there. Vicky soon realized that she had been "kidnapped" by her obsessive husband. When Grant caught her trying to

telephone Ryan, he had her locked in her hospital room, kept under sedation. Meanwhile, Ryan was searching frantically for Vicky.  When he got a clue that Grant had taken her somewhere in the Alps, he headed straight there.  Vicky finally managed to escape from the hospital, and Ryan found her at a train station in Germany.  They confessed their love for each other, and when Grant showed up, Vicky told him it was over. Once back in Bay City, Vicky asked Grant for a divorce, and she and Ryan celebrated their

reunion at a secluded beach resort.  That fall, Vicky was shocked to learn she was pregnant.  She told Ryan the baby was his, but later revealed the truth that it was Grant's.  Wanting to get every aspect of her manipulative husband out of her life, Vicky attempted to have an abortion, but Grant found out and stopped her just in time.

Not long after, Vicky was in a car accident, after which she decided she wanted to keep the baby.  During the pregnancy, Vicky and Grant finalized their divorce and argued continually on custody rights.  Vicky was determined to keep her innocent child away from the grips of its psychotic father.

Vicky even asked Ryan to run away with her, but, thinking she was kidding, he laughed it off.  Early in 1994, Vicky and Ryan got engaged again and planned a wedding for May. But on the morning of the scheduled marriage, Vicky went into labor and son Kirkland was born. Vicky was panicked that Grant would get custody of the baby. So just days after the birth, she took Kirkland and skipped town, leaving Ryan hurt and confused.

For six months, Vicky stayed in hiding, only keeping in contact with her mother.  But when it looked like she had to come back or lose Ryan forever, Vicky returned to Bay City with a secret plan to switch babies on Grant.

Ryan was ecstatic that she had returned, yet he was too hurt to forgive her and told her it was over between them. Grant was awarded custody of the baby he thought was Kirk (but was really another baby Vicky had switched) and Vicky kept the real Kirk, passing him off as Sean, an baby who had been abandoned by his mother.

Eventually Ryan realized he still loved Vicky and wanted to be with her, and on Christmas Eve they got back together.  Vicky was happy to have Ryan back, but she felt guilty about keeping him in the dark about Kirk.  When Ryan was about to ask her to marry him, Vicky broke down and confessed her "baby switch" scheme.  Ryan was furious and threw the engagement ring in the snow. A distraught Vicky went to Grant threatening to shoot him, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Thinking she had nothing left for her in Bay City since Ryan had rejected her, Vicky

left town with the real Kirk.  Meanwhile, Ryan received a distressed phone call from Grant saying that he had been shot by Vicky. Ryan went to the scene to find an unconscious Grant shot in the stomach. Wanting to protect Vicky, he confessed to the shooting and was arrested.

After hearing about Ryan's arrest, Vicky rushed back to town to see him in jail, thinking that he really had shot Grant. When Ryan discovered Vicky hadn't shot him, he admitted that he hadn't shot

him either. Ryan quickly withdrew his confession and was released from jail. When Grant awoke from his coma, he accused Vicky of the shooting, and she was put on trial. Ryan was determined to clear her name, and he finally figured out a way to trick Grant into

confessing that he had actually shot himself. Vicky was cleared of all charges and was given sole custody of the real Kirkland (the baby she had passed off as Kirk was finally claimed by his real parents). Vicky and Ryan were able to get on with their new life together.

The couple had a few months of happiness until that summer, when Ryan's psychotic mother came to town disguised as Rachel Hutchins.  As the police captain, Ryan was obsessed with capturing her. But to protect Vicky, he wouldn't tell her this 'secret case' he was working on. Vicky became frustrated and suspicious, and even accused Ryan of cheating on her.

They quickly made up, but Ryan still didn't tell Vicky about Justine. As a result, Justine was able to pose as Rachel to lure Vicky into a trap in the basement of an old mansion. Justine wanted Vicky out of the way so that Grant could have Kirkland, so she walled her up and left her for dead. Ryan finally rescued Vicky, who was near death from dehydration. Making sure she was safe in the hospital, Ryan went out in search of capturing Justine. He found her at the train tressle, and just as he was about to capture her, Grant showed up and

shot Ryan to protect Justine. Ryan was rushed to the hosptial, where a still-recuperating Vicky stayed by his bedside day and night. After lying in a coma for days, Ryan finally woke up. But, sensing that his death was upon him, Ryan told Vicky that it was time for him to go and that she would find somebody else. Vicky desperately insisted she would never want anyone else and begged him not to leave her, but Ryan knew his time had come. He tearfully whispered his last words, that he had always loved her and always would love her, and then he died, while Vicky tenderly kissed him

goodbye. Vicky remained devoted to finding justice for Ryan's death. Thinking that Justine had been the one to shoot him, Vicky tracked her down but couldn't bring herself to kill her. However, Carl was not far behind, and he ended up stabbing Justine in his living room. When Vicky discovered that Grant had actually been the one to shoot Ryan, she set out to trap him. Pretending to be attracted to him again, Vicky eventually got Grant to confess and he was imprisoned.

Even with Ryan's killer in jail, Vicky still could not get over the loss of her greatest love. One year after his death, Ryan returned to Earth as a ghost. Although Vicky couldn't see or communicate with him, Ryan was at her side. When he discovered that Grant was plotting to kill Vicky and Shane Roberts by blowing up Shane's truck, Ryan managed to get through to Shane and the two got out just before the bomb went off. The shockwave of the blast sent Vicky tumbling down a cliff where she was knocked unconscious. At that moment, her spirit left her body and she was reunited with Ryan's spirit.

The couple was ecstatic at being able to see and touch each other again. Ryan took her to a special part of Heaven and the two were finally able to have the fairytale wedding they'd always dreamed of. Vicky was content to remain in Heaven with Ryan forever, but when he showed her visions of life on Earth without her there, she realized how much she was needed by her children. Vicky's heart broke knowing that, in order to return to her kids, she would have to leave Ryan behind forever. She put on a brave face as Ryan kissed her goodbye, told her once more how he would always be there in her heart, and sent her back to Earth. With the couple's unfinished business finally done, Ryan's restless spirit was able to be at peace in Heaven, and Vicky was finally able to put Ryan's death behind her and move on with her life.
