WHY I JOINED Socialist Youth

By Emmet Cowan
I have been a big follower of Marx and Lenin since I was studying them for A-level history and my fascination just grew the more I read. I joined Socialist Youth because I was very interested in their way of doing things.

I liked the way that they are active against the Iraq War and are internationalists and they are also a very local party. For example we campaigned to get Joanne Delaney, reinstated after she was sacked by Dunnnes Stores for wearing a union badge. We campaigned on the streets of Belfast to highlight Joanne's case and got petitions signed. When she got her job back, it made me feel good because I felt we had played a part in it.
