Research Paper for Night Unit

You will write a 5-7 page research paper meant to enrich your understanding and knowledge of the events depicted in Weisel’s memoir, Night. Handouts to organize and cite sources are forthcoming.

 

Requirements:

·         Double-spaced.

·         Typed

·         Font: Arial or Times New Roman. Font Size: 12.

·         Annotated Bibliography—Sources cited list. (No less than 2 books, 1 journal/magazine source, and 1 internet source.)

·         Graphics/images to enhance the reader’s experience. This does not mean graphics/images count as part of your 5-7 pages of text.

 

Below is a list of topics you may choose from:

 

  1. Elie Weisel, author of Night: Research his life, experience during the Holocaust, life afterwards, and his reasons for publishing his experiences.

 

  1. The Jewish Holocaust

 

  1. The Concentration Camps and/or the Extermination Camps of the Holocaust.
    1. Address Hitler’s “Final Solution”
    2. Some of the more infamous camps are:

                                                               i.      Auschwitz-Birkenau (This is where most of Night is set.)

                                                             ii.      Buschenwald

                                                           iii.      Dachau

                                                            iv.      Dzierzazna and Litzmannstadt (AKA—“Jugenverwahrlage,” children’s camps)

                                                              v.      Any other camp you come across and find significant.

 

  1. Heroes of the Holocaust
    1. Simon Wiesenthal
    2. Oscar Schindler
    3. Admiral Canaris, a.k.a. The Decent Nazi
    4. Any other hero you come across. A good source for heroics performed during the Holocaust can be found at http://www.auschwitz.dk/

 

  1. Adolf Hitler and his “Final Solution”

 

  1. The Nuremberg Trials or any other well-known trial against Nazi war criminals.

 

  1. The Lebensborn Project

 

  1. American policy during WW2 in connections with the Jewish Holocaust—Why did the U.S. wait so long to get involved and take action?

 

  1. Any other topic you can come up with that connects directly with the Jewish Holocaust. Submit a 1 page proposal for teacher’s approval first.
