Word Cards

  1. Divide up an index card into 4 equal squares ( + ).
  2. Write the word at the top left hand corner, in the very center, and/or on the opposite blank side.
  3. In the top left square write down any synonyms or definitions for the word.
  4. In the top right square, illustrate the word.
  5. In the bottom left square, write the word in the context you found it in. (Copy down the sentence or phrase you first saw the word in.)
  6. In the bottom right square, write down any antonyms.

Flashcards

  1. Write the new word on one side.
  2. On the reverse side, first write the sentence in which you first saw the new word (the word in context).
  3. Skip a line or leave some space.
  4. Write down the synonym or short definition for the new word.
  5. Skip a line or leave some space.
  6. Write down the antonym of the new word.
  7. Draw a picture to illustrate the new word, if it helps. Optional.
