The mission of the Korean American Museum is
to preserve Korean American history and culture from the unique and relevant
perspective of Korean Americans. In accomplishing its mission, the Museum
hopes to become a center for the exchange of ideas and experiences related
to life in multi-ethnic America and a vital force in bringing communities
generations of different cultural backgrounds.
The Korean American Museum was founded in 1991 to plan and operate a cultural institution in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. Its mission is to preserve the history, experiences and achievements of Americans of Korean ancestry. In accomplishing its mission, the Museum will work to become a center for cultural exchange, arts and education, a catalyst for sharing ideas and resources, and a center for promoting and celebrating the diversity of culture in thIs country.
The Korean American Museum has firmly established itself as a significant cultural resource for the Korean American community here in California. It has committed itself not only to a full slate of exhibitions and other public programs, but also to a multi-million dollar campaign to build a permanent museum in Los Angeles' Koreatown. An integral part of the museum's mission is to share the achievements of the Korean American culture with people of the other cultures as a way of promoting the inter-cultural dialogue without which diversity cannot flourish.
