Julie...
Poem by John Steele
Julie
A stone bridge
A crashing stream
And me
Julie
A herd of sheep
Green hills
Sloping down
to a
Glass lake
And me
Julie
A summer breeze
Ancient trees
A passing cyclist
(In shabby clothes)
And me
Julie
Flashing eyes
Moving closer
Two lips
A kiss
And
.........who cares about
.........the scenery?

This poem appeared in issue two of "The Bentilean" (Christmas 1990) and was written when I was a member of the Bentilee Volunteers' writing group, SCRIBE. We were asked to write something in class and I used as my inspiration a poster of a stone bridge with a country stream flowing under it which decorated the wall of the room we were in. 'Julie' was just a name that had always appealed to me. The dots on the last two lines were an attempt to indent them as in the original poem.Back to: The Contents Page | The Archive | The Bentilean Main Page
