On News
Having pondered about the nature of colour, and the moral implications of creating truly intelligent computers, Bent' Philosopher Kevin Griffin now turns his attention to the news and asks "Who cares anyway?!!"
What is the point of listening to the news? I mean, okay some of it may be important, like major earthquakes and that, but is there really any reason for us to know that Mr X of Bentilee has just finished a marathon for charity, or that one of the Queen's corgis has the sniffles, SO WHAT!
Everyday you hear about unimportant things that are happening hundreds of miles away. What can the average guy do about it? Is is really going to make any Universal Difference if millions know that Mr. Muscles has just won some trophy at a place half way across the planet? How can we relate to that, does it give us a sense of achievement and a new goal in the purpose of life?
We all hear about minor tragedies that happenn across the globe: somebody may fall off a cliff or get stranded in a desert, somebody's dog may have broken a record for the loudest bark ever recorded.
THERE'S NO POINT IN KNOWING
THIS. BIG DEAL. SO WHAT?
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT???Most of it will have been forgotten by tomorrow anyway!
Even major disasters tthat happen, like the recent thing in America, what can the average dude do about it all? NOTHING! So what is the point in knowing about it in the first place then? Maybe people have got this thing about listening to depressing news, maybe people like feeling sad. personally, I don't give a hoot.
"Oh, you've got to be aware of what's going on in the world." says most people. "Something might affect you personally."
LOOK, if it's going to happen then it's going to happen, and it doesn't make the slightest bit of differnece if you know about it beforehand anyway, so just relax and have a good time.
After you've seen this useless piece of news do you make it a point to help anyone that may have been injured? Do you send piles of money for a cause that isn't popular? Do you write congratulatory letters to the owner of the dog that's barked the loudest? Do you really care enough to help out personally? The average person will say NO, if they are honest enough. So why hear about it, you're not going to do anything with the information anyway.
Forget the news, watch a video or go to the cinema or something. It will be just as mindless, you'll come out feeling happy and you'll have better things to talk about. Afterall, what would you rather listen to, bad news or good news? GOOD NEWS, YEAH? RIGHT, SO GO TO IT !!
People are really weird, you know.
I've noticed;- Ed
