Smoking Monkey

A song for X

A song for X is all my own work. It's hard to sit down and think, I want to write a song about this, but somehow I managed it with this one. I did it all off in one go while sitting at work. Put it down on the word processor quick before I forgot it. Printed it out a couple of days later and then sat down with my guitar and tried to put a few chords to it. I just did a couple of riffs, ie verse and chorus and put it on the four track to see how well it worked. I had to bend the song a bit and vary the timing on the guitar but it came together almost straight away. I think the chorus is a little bit cheesey but over all I was quite pleased with the whole thing.

The lyrics:
[Do it verse chorus, verse chorus, you know]
[verse 1]
the snow came with the chinese renaissance
we stacked it up with the butter mountains and the lakes of wine
we renamed Bethlehem in the memory of the forgotten
with the emporor of heat
and the lord of the flies
[chorus]
and don't forget that Jesus saw you coming
don't forget that the devil was an unhappy man
and when the frost is biting
and the world is crying out
put your arms around me
and remind me that it's christmas time again.
[verse 2]
give up just to feel what givin in is like
and be calm with the knowledge that you're okay
and wait there for someone you haven't seen for years
last time we got sick of you
it don't make us feel bad
[verse 3]
forget the church forget the holly

pray to god for commerciality
one day the only snow will come from bottles
and the only guide
will be the TV Times
[verse 4]
I've been here long enough to see the way we are
I know that every year it gets a little less
but only december lets you look at people differently
and say how are you
to unfamiliar eyes
[verse 5]
so think about it when you're fillin up your lighter
think about it when youre forgettin the chocolates on the tree
don't tell me i've been too late everytime it mattered
don't leave me here with the heat
and the lord of the flies

Yes very nice now take me back my father knows where I am
