BEGINNER'S LUCK

A SCOUNDREL BREEZE
The critic shook his head and smiled at me.
"My child," he said, alluding to my youth,
"This nature stuff just isn't poetry.
You're going to have to learn to tell the truth!
Now, birds are nice but everybody knows
It is impossible for them to feel.
To say that baby Willow trees have toes...??!
If you MUST write, please stick to what is real!
Don't tell me how the moon leaves silver tracks
Or that the wind is just an impish kid!
I live by proven scientific facts
And I'd appreciate it if YOU did!
With that he turned to go but then a breeze
Blew down a branch and knocked him to his knees....
