THE CHANNEL PRINCE OF DARKNESS

by:   Scriptress

He goes by many names.   He uses many means to perform his evil deeds.   Night after dark night the channel is besieged by little gnats that bite, but draw no blood.   Princess 'Soars Among the Clouds' calls forth her disciples,   Dalnet and his lesser knaves.

"Oh,   princess thy beauty knows no bounds,   thy intelligence soars among the stars,   but oh princess,"   and this they whisper,   "the prince has powers beyond ours."

Princess 'Soars Among the Clouds'   studies and learns many of the ways of this evil prince.   She calls forth her hand maidens,   Spirit Deer, Alura, TinaM, Rani, and Hope.

"Oh maidens who bid me well,   what is your council?"

The four maidens consider the problem speaking with much love and concern for their princess.   Yet as they speak and consider, a cold and chilling fog enters the room seeping its way into every nook and cranny until in absolute fright the maidens flee.

The Princess 'Soars Among the Clouds'   fearful, but staunch to her loyal friends,   issues forth a command.   The fog clears with only tendrils clinging tenaciously in the dark corners of the chamber.

She kneels before the great fireplace to warm herself. The fire dances with its orange, red and yellow flicks of flame.   Knowing the fire spirit is most powerful she prays,   "Oh Spirit of the Fire what council do you impart?"

A great and deep and hollow-sounding voice issues forth.   "Thee must take your council with the strongest of your subjects."

"Oh Spirit of the Fire,   who might that be?"

"I have spoken,"   and with a great flare of flame the voice was silent.   With the spirit's voice still ringing in her ears,   the princess called forth her knights,   considering them to be the strongest and staunchest of her friends.

There entered the chamber Vagen The Strong,   Idiot The Wise,   Silverwind The Faithful,   Dopesick The Kind,   VonBek The Loyal,   and Fingures The Capable.   Behind them came the hand maidens.   Each bowed or curtseyed as was the custom.   Princess 'Soars Among the Clouds' returned their favor.

She sat upon her stool looking out over her friends.   But wait ...   there was a knight unrecognized.   "You,   who dare enter my chamber without permission,"   she commanded,   "come forth and be recognized!"

The knight stepped forward to the fair lady's foot stool.   There he knelt waiting to be commanded further.

"Rise knight and tell me your mission."

"My mission is but to help you princess.

"How is it I have never come upon thee?   And,   in what way do you conduct your mission,   knight?"

"I am Knightinwhite.   My mission is to always lurk in the shadows watching for those who would bring famine and pestilence to your fair land,   oh my princess,"   and the knight bowed low once more.

"Do you know the way to rid my channel of these gnats?"   asked the princess.

"This I have come to know.   These pests are sent by the Channel Prince of Darkness.   He has great powers.   He employs many ways to accomplish his evil deeds."

Princess 'Who Soars Among the Clouds'   rose from her stool and went to her knights.   Standing with them she asked,   "How is it that these,   my faithful friends,   find themselves at a loss to do my bidding,   and you are so bold as to speak alone?"

Then stepped forth four begowned in flowing robes of blue and silver.   "Oh Princess 'Who Soars Among the Clouds'   you know us as your faithful wizards.   You have taken our council many times and from that council you and your subjects have thrived.   We beseech thee to attend this knight's words."   So spoke the head wizard,   Wizzu.

"I will listen,"   said the princess.   And with that she turned and faced Knightinwhite.   "Speak,"   she commanded.

"You,   my princess,   must travel to the Channel Prince of Darkness.   You,   and only you can banish his evil ways forever."

"But I know not the place where this evil prince lives."

"This will be my service to thee.   I will guide and protect thee on your way.   But first you must command that your faithful servants,   here gathered,   protect your realm in your absence.   By your leave I will instruct them in their labors."

With that Knightinwhite bade the hand maidens to form a circle,   informing them that at all costs,   they must continue to show their faces outward.   Then with the same bidding he bade the knights to form an outer circle.   He called forth the four wizards,   Wizzu and his apprentices,   CodyJ, Thon and Scriptress.

"Thou must stand stalwart at the four corners of this universe.   Thou must never bow your head or turn to face inward,"   he commanded each in turn.

Then he drew a circle with his sword connecting the four corners.   Between each wizard,   and with the tip of his sword,   the knight spelled out incantations,   /chanserv akick add *!*sex@*;   /chanserv akick add *!*sex*@*;   /chanserv akick add *!sex *@*, and on the fourth arc he scribed, /mode +b nick ! user handel @*server.com.   Then with a flourish,   his sword cut the air and a secret panel opened.   He bade the princess to follow.

Princess 'Soars Among the Clouds' paused and turned as her subjects cried out in fear.   She could no longer see them for there arose a wall of vines where once read the incantations.

"We must not tarry,   for great perils lay ahead."

This scribe will not suffer the reader with the dangers lying in wait for the knight and his princess.   Suffice it to say that when they reached the Channel Prince of Darkness there arose a dire cloud of gnats as to suck the air from their nostrils,   blind their eyes,   and leave them prone on the ground.

"Hasten my princess.   Thee must look upon the face of this evil and repeat these words,   February second nineteen ninety eight."   And with that the knight ceased to be.   Only his cloak and sword remained.

Barely able to raise her head,   the princess looked upon the prince.   His eyes shone yellow,   there issued forth from his mouth such a noise as to deafen her.

She whispered the incantation with each breath,   and summoning a stronger voice from within,   she heard her words coming forth with a strength she doubted as hers.

Suddenly there was a blinding flash of ochre,   an ill-smelling stench that caused her to gag.   The princess closed her eyes and with what little breath she could call forth from her very being,   she continued her incantation.   Then breath came no more.

The princess awoke surrounded by her joyful friends.   Scribes,   wizards,   knights,   and hand maidens danced in a merry circle.   Princess `Who Soars Among the Clouds' offered forth her prayer of thanks.   "To soar among the floating clouds that is my destiny,   to live my life among the stars my mind and spirit free."
