Words Without Songs The idea for the Words Without Songs pages came to me after I saw an excellent performance by Guitarist Michael Hedges. During his act he poked fun at some songs that when taken as stand-alone poetry sounded pretty silly. He read some lyrics aloud from well-known popular songs, and they really did sound funny when simply read as poetry. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance, but I thought what if I did completely the opposite with some songs? What if I found some songs that stand alone outside of their normal musical boundaries. On the Words Without Songs pages you will find excerpts from songs that when separated from the song stand up pretty well as individual statements. These excerpts show the creativity, depth, and humor of the songwriters. What is even funnier is that in some cases the excerpts are better than the entire songs themselves. I've also made it into a game of sorts: try and guess the songwriter, name of the song, or the album it came from, and then click on the words or links to see who wrote them. You might be very surprised at some of the songwriters and songs you find. | |
