Blogs (and such) that I Read
Please note that these are in random order... and yes, there are a couple that I also list on my page of Online Journals I Read because some of them are more like journals than blogs and I am care more about interesting reading than purity of definitions or precision of categorization and besides which I felt like doing it this way.

  • The Diary of Samuel Pepys
The diarist -- Sam Pepys -- This site began with his first entry for January 1, 1659/60 on January 1, 2003 and has been posting a daily entry -- the side has annotation discussions of each days' entry plus lots of good background information. Yes, I also have this under journals, but Pepys discusses the key political events of his day... so it's similar to some of the blogs I've listed
  • Jerry Pournelle's Chaos Manor
The noted science fiction writer, Byte columnist, etc. -- this is an offshoot of his Byte column, literally is a "journal" -- a daybook -- a collection of commentaries on computers and technology and politics and education, etc.... plus mail
  • Andrew Sullivan
British-born, gay Irish Catholic conservative/libertarian providing political and cultural commentary
  • John Scalzi
A genuine published author (both print and online, both fact and fiction) and proud father and game tester...

Glenn Reynolds is a law professor who writes one of the best known and most influential blogs, the archetype of a libertarian blog,.
  • James Lileks
The Bleat is a daily (Mon. thru Fri.) discussion of day to day adventures with his pre-school daughter, descriptions of what he's read, watched or listened to, analysis of current events, both major and minor. (He has been doing this since 1997; his archives are here.) He also is a columnist for a daily newspaper and writes a web-column as well. (Hunt around on his site -- he collects matchbook covers, old advertising graphics, terrible early 20th century newspaper comics, etc.)
  • Winds of Change
A group blog -- a collection of bloggers, some of whom have dropped their personal blog sites to blog at Winds of Change. Slogan: "Liberty. Discovery. Humanity. Victory."
  • The Volokh Conspiracy
Another group blog -- a dozen or so (14 the most recent time that I counted) people posting comments with a concentration on legal, Bill of Rights, and political issues

  • Samizdata.net/blog
Samizdata.net is a libertarian group interested in space travel, politics, etc. Samizdata.net/blog/ is their multi-blogger blog that also has a very large list of links to other blogs (of widely varying quality).
  • Daybydaycartoon
Okay, so it's not really a blog, nor is it a journal... it's a cartoon! Yeah, so, deal with it... and read it... it's really good, sharp, different, funny, a definite attitude...
  • Stephen Den Beste's USS Clueless
A software engineer by trade, he discusses politics, military issues, etc. -- very bright, very perceptive, very entertaining.
  • Brian's Culture Blog
Brian Micklethwait, a libertarian Brit, has two blogs -- this one, as the name implies, discusses cultural issues (movies, tv, advertising, the internet, etc.) -- his other blog is...
