Goodbye
By Marian Neilson
If I were to say goodbye today
Would you ask me to stay?
If I were already gone
Would you try to find me?
Yesterday I was here
Today I am five miles away
Tomorrow who knows were I'll be?
Traveling towards the future perhaps?
Will you try to draw me back into past?
My future lies miles away.
East, west, north or south
It doesn't matter which way
As long as it's somewhere other then the past.
Don't ask me to stay in the past
Where the hurt and the pain lie.
You have the power to hold me here.
I beg of you to let me move on,
Towards the future
Without feeling guilty for not looking back.
Please do the same. Don't stay in the past,
Move on to the future were the unknown awaits.
Where things are fresh and new.
So I'll say goodbye,
Kiss you upon your cheek
And cry as I drive away.
