The MAN, or is HE?
Another new face in the crowd,
Must be thirty or more,
What's he hanging around for,
Must be the man, he looks it.
Wow! what a chill in the air,
Paranioac group of kids these are.
Wonder if any of 'em realize,
I've been hanging around joints
Longer than half of 'em been alive?
Frank said, 'Fred said, cop ahead.'
Stash the lid, cool what you say.
Think I'm the man, do you?
Think about this then,
What if I'm not; what's the real man
Going to do to you?
Watch him look around, watching what we do,
Trying to be one of us, trying to be cool.
Don't they know the man's in for the buys?
He'll be one of 'em.
He's not very good at playing undercover
Just sitting there watching the cars cruise by.
Let'em be that way, I've been shut out
By better people.
I wonder if he's reminencing?
He does have a burnt-out look,
A use-to-be-hippie type.
Just because I do different
No reason to shut me out.
I've already done in my past
What you'll be doing in your future.
I've seen him before, hanging out
At Jack's old place.
He's this town's resident wizard.
Some say he's a jedi master now.
Besides I'm the expert
At reading people's cover.
Potheads, pillers, pushers,
Real people, fake people,
Who's the man, who's the hawker.
I'm the one what's in the know.
