Kindness A Necessity to Art and Poetry.

The production of all works in art or poetry requires in their conception and execution not only the exercise of the intellect, skill and patience, but particularly a concurrent warmth of feeling and a free flow of imagination. This renders them most tender plant, which will thrive only in an atmosphere calculated to maintain that warmth, and that atmosphere is one of kindness~~kindness towards the artist personally, as well as towards his/her production.

The laws of nature, are capable of being discovered and understood, and of being taught and made our own. this is the task of science. And while science discovers and teaches these laws, art teaches their application.

No human pursuits make any progress until science is brought to bear upon them.

Science, Industry and Art.

Science discovers the laws of power, motion and transformation. Industry applies them to the raw matter, which the earth yields in abundance, but which becomes valuable only by knowledge. Art teaches us the immutable laws of beauty and symmetry and gives to our productions forms in accordance to these.

To achieve any species of greatness we must be utterly unconscious of the way we arrive at it.

They are the out-goings of an inward being. They are the embodiments of the soul, which was born great.

The greatest works of human genius were written not to immortalize their authors but to provide for some practical need. Homer sang, partly to kindle patriotism in his countrymen, partly perhaps to get a good nights lodging as he wandered the Shores of Greece and Asia. Shakespeare wrote his dramas not for glory, but to "have money in his pocket."

It is well for every person to see a beautiful painting, to examine a perfect piece of sculpture, to read a lovely poem, listen to music playing softly, take a walk, listen to the birds, look at the beauty of the flora and fauna. It seems to carry you away from that which is gross and material.

The facts of science are not as some think, boring, dry, lifeless things. They are living things, filling the ear with the beautiful harmony of colours that the eye can look upon. They not only bring pleasures which endure, but health and comfort to thousands who, without this knowledge would have lead pitiful lives.

Use a certain portion of your time in studying one branch of science. It doesn't matter which you choose as far as beauty, wonder and truth are concerned, music, astronomy, botany, chemistry, geology all possess these in such abundance that life will be too short to exhaust them.
Many an hour otherwise dull, will be "filled with music" many starlit nights, many landscapes, ugly to the unseeing eye will be marked with lines of beauty.

Our knowledge is useless to us unless used wisely, dealing with the things we see, the wonders of nature can make life beautiful.
