Making Real Ocean Wave

Real ocean wave needs ripples.

I considered this technique for the sailing ship on the ocean.

For this purpose, the wave must be the Terrain.

1st STEP: Grayscale mapping process with Photoshop.

1. Make new 512×512pixels grayscale image.

Set background color to black, painting color to white.

2. Select Radial Gradient Tool, open Options palette. Set mode to Lighten, click Edit button and move middle range mark to 40%.

3. Fill image with Radial Gradient Tool at random.

4. Convert it to the pattern.

Filter/Other/Offset, enter scroll value, check Wrap Around, OK, draw more circles to eliminate the border.

Select All, Edit/Define Pattern.

5. Make other images filled with more compressed pattern.

Create new 1024x1024 grayscale, Edit/Fill with Pattern. Image/Image Size, set Width and Height to 50%, OK.

Select All, Edit/Define Pattern.

Do same process again for 4 times compressed pattern.Save them as a PICT/BMP file individually.

2nd Step: Create wave terrains in Bryce.

1. Open Terrain Editor, Import a PICT/BMP image, click OK.

2. Set Terrain height lower to make the real wave shape.

3. Replicate Terrain, align them like the figure shown below, Import other PICT/BMP if necessary.

4. Set the camera.

5. Apply Material to all Terrains.

6. Do render.

7. Try and error material setting if necessary.
