Yardena Arazi started singing
in the army in the late 60's early 70's. Then she formed a group, Chokolad Minta Mastic (Chocolate Mint Chewing Gum) with
Lea Lupatin and Ruti Holzman. The group was very successful in the 70's and then, in 1977
they parted and Yardena started a solo career. With a lot of success too. Yardena has a
very pretty voice and most of the songs that she sings are usually lively or at least easy
to like and remember. One of her biggest success in her solo career though, came in 1987
with her Gypsy album,"Gypsy Soul", which was a best seller for
many months. She had always been popular, but then her popularity reached new heights. Her
following album, "Od Yom Ehad" (One More Day) was also very successful,
and it is also one of my favorites! This album contains the hit "Ben Adam"
that Yardena Arzi sang at the Eurovision for Israel. I must say that in the late 80's,
Yardena was everywhere: concerts, television, even commercials! It was even easier for her
as Ofra Haza, her long time "rival" for the title of
Israeli pop queen had left for Europe! In 1990, Yardena released an excellent album, "Tahana
Baderer" (Stop on the Road) which contained some of her greatest hits as well as
a few new songs. The following album, "Anashim Zarim" (Strange Men) was
not very popular, and honestly it was a mediocre album. Her 1995 "From Loving
you" was better, but not ultra fantastic though. This year, they released
a double CD-greatest hits (the third in about 10 years!!!).The only good thing is that
this time, the set contains a few great songs that were not available on CD before. Now,
Yardena hosts a talk show on the Israeli television, so she is very busy. Let's hope that
she will still find time to record a few more hits! |
