One week later, we finally picked up the bike.

Once at home, we had a second, longer look at the bike, and re-evaluated our options. We had considered using the better parts on our 1974 CT-70, and we had considered re-building the bike and making it run.

One thing that was for certain, was that since the engine was complete, I would re-build it, and get it running. Once that was completed, then we would re-evaluate, and make a final "lomg term" decision regarding the complete bike.

The first thing we attacked, was to try and see if the piston could be "freed" from the cylinder walls. This turned out to be much harder than I had expected. I tried heating, freezing, rust removers, lubricants, and various methods of "brute force" to free the piston, but still it would not release.

Finally, we removed the complete engine from the motorcycle frame (where we found a broken "motor mount bolt"), and placed the engine in my vise, where we made up a "jig" to hold the cylinder, while we "hammered" on the old piston.

After about three hours of this, progressing very slowly, the piston and the cylinder were seperated, with the rest of the engine undamaged. The next day I ordered a +050 piston (2nd over), and rings from my local Honda dealer, so that we could get the cylinder machined to accept it.

As well, I ordered the following parts to complete the engine re-build.

Once I received the new piston, I delivered it, and the "rusty" cylinder to a local motorcycle shop, to have the cylinder "bored" to accept the "2nd over" piston and rings. This work has not yet been completed, and it has not yet been returned to me.
