- Standing
People have said:
   "Have a seat!"
   "Take mine!"
   "Make yourself at home!"
Yet you stand,
   Stark and still.
You're there in the back
   In the shadows, alone
   Watching...waiting...for something
Yet you know not what.
Maybe a smile
Maybe a "hello"
   But definitely for some spark,
   for life
   for happiness
You listen intently
   To every word being said,
While others are falling asleep
   In their seats.
You always stand, wherever you go
   But conceal yourself
   So you won't stand out.
As you observe others,
   I observe you.
Some may see you as weak, strange.
They may make fun of you
   For never sitting.
They think you're out of place.
But as I watch you
I see you as strong, courageous
   Even prideful;
Because I know you,
   And what you went through
   To stand again, finally
Even now on legs,
   That aren't really yours.
