- Touch
-
You touched my hand
When you introduced yourself
humorously, as you did in turn
to everyone else in the room.
You were well-known there,
And had a nice smile.
You touched my consciouness
At first, I thought you were weird
Just like all the other guys--
   flirtatious, and full of...
   flattery
What you said that night caught my attention
And every word following,
Everything you said,
I listened to intently.
You touched my smile
I caught certain words,
   glances
   tossed my way
Not knowing whether to take them as just flirting
or if they meant something more.
I didn't dare set my hopes too high
But you made me smile,
   regardless.
Then you touched my heart
I didn't expect it.
You actually seemed a little shy.
You called me, often
   and showed me respect.
I was surprised you were interested
   in me, of all people.
You really made me laugh
   and opened up to me.
But your touch disappeared
You backed away.
For some reason
   I haven't grasped yet,
I miss your touch.
Will you back away so far
That I...We...migh never know
   what might have been?
Will you ever let me touch you?
