Perhaps, while strolling through our school halls, a regularly-built guy with a confident, swaggering gait could only be singled out among the usual bevy of students. Nobody would bother to ask his name -- he is a personality in his own right. No other personality could be duplicated as his. He is Ericson Mendoza Marquez.
Here, in this young, 15-year-old teen-ager, we see the unraveling of a dynamic and active personality. First things first, so we come to his nickname. His friends call him Eric. Sporting a trim crew cut and a refreshing smile at all times, he never fails to lighten up the activities he indulges in.
Talking of busybodies, we find that he is an extremely responsible person. He is Vice-President of the Lily Homeroom Organization and Business Manager of the Senior Organization. Coming to PMT, he is 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer of the Cadet Corps. He retains membership in prominent organizations like the Students' Theatre and UPSCA. His over enthusiasm for sports has, however carried him quite far! He is now Sports Editor of The Scroll and the Vice-President of the Chess Club.
Eric has many varied hobbies and interests. He likes sports, but particularly, basketball, swimming and bowling. He watches movies and television with measured enthusiasm. Among his favorite movie personalities are: Sean Connery otherwise known as James Bond and Sandra Dee. Coming to vocal artists he says: "It all depends on my mood, you see. Sometimes I like the Beatles. Sometimes I like Tony Bennett. At other times, it's Perry Como. I like Joni James once in a while." For quiet times, he likes soft, sweet classical music. For colors to match his varied moods, Eric likes sky blue and light green best of all. Does he read a lot? What books does he enjoy best? To this, Eric answers, "I like exciting detective stories. Ian Fleming is my favorite author here."
As to his "very personal life" he says, "Yes, I have a crush. My ideal girl should be the kind, intelligent, understanding type."
In his associations with different people, Eric abhors most conceited persons.
What is his dream and philosophy in
life? "Success produces confidence; confidence relaxes industry, and negligence
ruins the reputation which accuracy has raised. It may be that man could
not have the great qualities if he had not also great failings. So I have
dreamt that I would be successful in life and in every other possible thing.
I wish that God would shower me with such great failings-- that it might
bring out better qualities in myself."
