Down under rock with low-blow punch:
The sassy black leather and biting guitar attacks served InXS well during the Australian band's sold-out Copa show Monday night. The combination gave the six-piece group a dramatic edge, missing on most of their albums.Add the dominating pressence of Michael Hutchence who spasmodically failed about the stage while he sang fiercely enough to steal attention unified force behind him.
For their part, the InXSseekers - crushed against the stagefront - seemed suitably over-whelmed when they found the space and shoving their hands upward in triumph when they did.
The salutes were mostly deserved acknowledgements for a band that found a successful rock 'n' roll formula, then constructed on it, around it and through it.
The end product was a blend of hard rock drive, which occasionally relented to Tim Fariss' guitar collages alongside a steady-dance backbeat provided by bassist Garry Beers and drummer Jon Fariss.
Iropnically, their only major North American hit "Original Sin" was out of place with its poppy persuasions, emphasizing that the group is tougher, musically, than it appears to be.
