Dear AMS,
We have
a stereo set that won't turn off when I turn the on/off switch to "off".
I've tried pulling the plug out of the wall, and rocking the switch back
and forth, and it still plays. I can turn the volume down, but only so
far, so it's become very disturbing to our routine in the house, especially
at night, when you can hear it pretty much all over the house. My mother-in-law
suggested putting the radio in the cellar or the attic, but you know, it's
a small house and I think the sound would get to every corner of our home
because of the heating ducts.
Do you
have an answer to this problem? Or if not, do you know of someone who could
use this radio? It has a tape player (but that doesn't work) and if anyone
wants it we'll even be glad to pay the shipping.
Thank you,
Eugene and Darlene Rocco

Dear Mr. And Mrs. Rocco,
You know I think the
solution is easy. The on/off switch is broken. Now I know you’ve unplugged
it so the next step is to take the batteries out. If this doesn’t work
then I think your radio is possessed. I’m no expert, but you may want to
watch what you say and do around it. Possessed things tend to have tempers
you don’t want to mess with. (PS. I’d take it if the tape player worked.)
