My Life ... as of 28th Feb ...

 

    Okay. the party high is settling..im not sure i can compose a vivid account of the event properly right now.. feeling sober. darn it. Ne'ermind. i tell you about the mardi gras minus the camp and sparkly. Thats for later when i can find photos to eye-feast on. Just u wait..

    It struck me pretty early on in the parade..how real it is. In s'pore homosexuality is really really swept under the parquet and its a completely foreign thing. Here, it hits u in the face and it's all around you and everywhere. Everywhere. then u have this Huuuge Parade/festival/party and you go watch it and you have to accept it. to deny its existence wld require some serious mental firewalling.

    Where to start? the costumes..the floats..the flesh...geez..
    I think the main thing about the mardi gras was the politics..it was like a huge demonstration for gay rights cum sex-orgy and drag-fest. It was glorious~! There were dreamy guys, spindly guys, blubbery bald guys, all in full glory with their tiny thongs/spangly g-strings/thin skin-tight latex spray-on briefs....ahhhhhh..... in particular there was this guy in a cowboy hat, wearing a red g-string and those cowboy boot-things.. my god. he was sooo sexy. he just Had to be gay. argh. Then there were the drag queens..they were sooo camp!!! it was cool man, they were in like 20inch high stilettos and platforms and they balanced marvellously ...not to mention the costumes, the big hair, the makeup..it was such fun watching them~  Oh there were just as many girls of course..and lots of em went topless. and hairless... but it didnt quite so interest me (so i prefer guys. dah.)... :)..oh but it might interest you to know that there were 120 dancing Xenas somewhere in the middle of the parade. isnt that an interesting perspective. Xena: the lesbian icon. I thought it was such a hoot.
 
    Fun aside, there were some parts of the parade that i was having tiny internal dilemmas about.. Like the Anglican Gays and Lesbians, the Catholics, the Jewish, etc etc... mainly about religion... It seems somehow wrong yet its not so easy to point out why. There were parts that were pretty extreme too, like this huge float of guys cavorting on a gigantic model of a erected penis with plush testicles. Try watching that with ur parents. ha. The highlight of the parade for me was when i actually got to the front of the crowd when two pple had to leave for the toilet(snigger) and i was delightedly hogging my part of the railing when this float stopped directly in front of me. The timing of it all. The brilliant thing had this really large Mural-type painting of an all-out Orgy. It had The Works, graphic detail and texture. It was serious hard-core porn and it stopped right in front of me with my parents right behind me. Its pretty futile by then to pretend like u dont see it. but i tried. Im sure my parents appreciated that anyway.

    Hrm. just noticed there's sparkly bits all over me. Just for the fun of telling, the predominant colour of the whole thing was pink..and black leather..but back to the pink. bright spangly sparkly teochew pink. PeenK! haha. the alcohol fumes are getting to me now. On the walk to the parade route we saw people pouring bacardi rum and stolichnya into bottles of coke and sprite...And lugging boxes of beer. They were also carrying milk crates. To stand on. And they were Tall. needless to say, we spent alot of time trying to find a spot where we could actually see past the bleeding tall teetotallers on milk crates. Lessons learnt for next year. Go with friends and bring small ladders.

    There's a mardi gras party going on now..its chock-ful of celebs and elton john's supposed to be performing. There was also a live netcast of the parade, but its over now so much for that.. All that's left is to wait for them to put up the pictures so i can paste em here... oH wait... they're re-playing the netcast of the mardi gras until the end of march, so you can go check it out..when they update it.(hrm). you'll need real-player(there are directions for dwnloading that if u dont have it). I think, if u can get ur rplayer to wrk, its jolly well worth chking out~!
