The part of the world that I live in is notorious for political unrest and also for a remarkable diversity of folk lore and natural beauty, ranging from snow capped mountains to fertile plains, dense forests where European bears, deer and wolves still roam free, and the Adriatic, a part of the Mediterranean, with its rugged coast, islands and pristine beaches and a wonderful variety of cultures - a meeting place of Asia, Europe and Africa since times of yore.
