Soul Speak

In the late evening hours,
with your tenderness before me,
we lie down for the night.
I feel your smooth body,
that is now becoming so familiar,
slide over and nestle up to mine.
With a deep yawn,
I slow the world down.

Through sleepy eyes,
I notice something is wrong.
There is never any warning of this.
Laying here with your head on my chest,
You open up to me for the first time.
Out pours the pain and the tears
from a troubled past you have kept inside.

When your voice fails you,
When your pain becomes to intense,
yours eyes tell me the words
that your mouth cant say.
I hear them,
I hold them for you,
I keep them safe.

When your breathing slows
and your tears finally dry,
at the moment just before sleep,
I quietly whisper
I love you.
