Our leasurely three lanes will soon constrict to two, as the
right lane opts to join Interstate 95's pesky eastern seaboard
shadow, US Route 1. If you were #1 once upon a time, you would
want to keep getting attention too. Boston Road used to be formally
known as Boston Post Road, I suppose because in olden days it
wasn't used for much more than carrying posted mail or posted
soldiers. Today, who has the patience to call it anything more
than the minimum necessary to get the point across? Shot 10/23/99. |
It's
the third and last call for Interstate 95. Actually, it's only
the first call for I-95's northbound lanes. The Co-op City interchange
leaves that choice out. Shortly after we pass under the arched
overpass carrying the New England Thruway, we are out of NYC.
As you can see, traffic has picked up noticeably since we left
the drawbridge.
