COMMENTS MADE REGARDING GUN CONTROL:

Yvonne,

It is horrible truth to realize, isn't it ? The awful fact that the
biggest mass murderers of the last century were governments that killed
"unwanted" members of their societys.

The mechanisims have almost always included "gun control." Often
started in the name of public safety or to suppress crime, they ended up
completely stripping away any vestige of gun ownership by the average
citizens and always (always !) from the despised minorities or political
pariahs.

I wonder how horrified those people must have been to realize that they
were now powerless. Powerless when their governments turned hostile.
Poweless when they turned murderous.

Our Founding Fathers (and Mothers) thought it was so important that the
general population maintain their right to keep and bear arms that they
codified it into the Bill of Rights of our Constitution as the second
Amendment - right behind freedom of speech.

For years those who promote gun control in this country have been lying
about the intent of the founders. They have lied about the meaning of
the second amendment - claiming that the right specified in it as
belonging to "the People" in fact conveys a right only unto the government.

For years the courts in this country, instead of defending the
Constitution and the rights supposedly protected by it, have been chipping away
at those very rights. Chipping away at our liberty and freedom while
increasing, always increasing, the power of the government.

And they lie about.

You and I are the same age, Yve. We can REMEMBER when things were
different. We know, from our own experience and perhaps even assistance,
that those who once railed at the power of the government and how it
robbed power from the people, got power for themselves.

We have seen, in our own lives, how they have used that power to chip
away at our rights and our liberty. How they have slowly expanded the
power of the government to tell us what to do, what not to do, whatwe may
think, what we may not think, who we must accept, and so much more.

Do I believe that our current Government wants to enslave us - no. Do I
believe that our current Government wants to makes us powerless in the
face of it's might ? More and more the answer is yes.

Do I worry about what may happen to my children in a future where the
government is all-powerful ? Damn straight I do !

I can only ponder this. If their cause is so just, if their logic and
reason is so correct, then why do they lie about it ?

Kevin

I enjoyed reading your thoughts, I have no problem with people owning guns, but I see no need for them to own assualt weapons. The people who say they go hunting with them, I want to know how much they want to kill the animal. I do not own a gun, nor have any inclination to own one. I work in the inner city, and have seen too many innocent people, adults and children killed, or wounded by legal and illeagal guns. I do not see our gov. moving in the direction of controlling us as subjects as shown in some of your examples. I think the main difference is that they (ie Russia, Turkey etc.) were more dictatorships, or ruled by kings and tsars, vs. a democracy. Can it happen in the U.S. absolutely. But I do not see it on the horizen. Neat topic I enjoyed it. Bob

Thoughts....
Only some of us learn by other peoples mistakes.
The rest of us have to be the other people.
You won't even get started if you wait for all the conditions to be "just right."
You cannot sit on the road to success for if you do, you will get run over.
The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.

I guess my cynicism has caused me to view the 4th in a different light...It now
represents a day off from work, an opportunity to consume mass quantities of beer,
sitting in the sun getting burned and adding carcinogens (sp?) to an otherwise
already unhealthy meal. Seems like as good a representation of America as celebrating the
wholesale murder of so called lesser cultures! Hope this helps to cheer you up...
