She sits alone
Reading by the light of a fire
She hears the distant sounds of a storm brewing
The rainbird takes flight
She snuggles in
As she reads, she remembers a love long gone
Thunder shatters the silence
The rainbird soars with the clouds
She looks into the fire
As tears stream down her face
The rain picks up, blowing in sheets
The rainbird joins the storm
She leans her head back
Wishing he was there with her
The wind howls in the night
The rainbird hears her cry
She walks over to the mantle
Reminiscing over the pictures there
Lighting flashes, splintering the sky
The rainbird comes a calling
She's startled by a knocking at her door
Slowly, cautiously she moves to answer
The sky has become a river of rain
The rainbird has come
She's taken aback as she opens the door
Her long lost love is standing there
Rain pouring off his coat
Hailstones pound the earth
The rainbird looks into her eyes
Struggling with logic and emotions
She invites the impossible in
The storm unleashes its full fury
The rainbird knows
She sits in silence for what seems like forever
She breaks into tears again
Its fury spent, the storm calms
The rainbird holds her
She looks up at his warm, smiling face
She whispers in his ear, I love you
The thunder fades
The rainbird touches her lips and departs
She pleads with him not to go
Her heart knows that he must
The rain ceases
The rainbird takes flight
She hears a whisper carried on the voice of the wind
Forever always will I love you...
The storm rides the wind
The rainbird follows
She sits back in her chair by the fire
Her heart filled with joy at the miracle that took place this night
The storm welcomes the rainbird back into the fold
The rainbird smiles
She is comforted, she'll never again fear the storm
She returns to the book
The storm rumbles on
The rainbird is done.
