I've studied it a lot and I'm really interested in it. A great book if you're interested is The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk. It's wonderful. Each sign is divided into 3 parts, or decanates. Each decanate has a constellation, a keyword, and a planetary subruler.
Many people are on what is called the cusp of a sign, or the point where one sign ends and the other begins; characterisitics of the two signs begin to blend and that person has traits of both. There are two cusps for each sign: one at the beginning of the sign and the other at the end, each lasting for about 4 or 5 days. If you're birthday is within the first few days or the last few days of your sign, congratulations! You're on a cusp.
Each individual is influenced by their cusp, decanate, sun sign, moon sign, and other planetary signs. Every planet has a pull on your personality. In doing a birthchart, your birthdate, time, and place all affect you too. So if you read your sign description and disagree with what it says about you, remember that what you read is the "typical Leo" or "typical Aquarius." You must take into account what signs your Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Moon, etc are in.
