Not Pink!!!

Kill the pink!

What possesses these marketers and toy makers that they have to make all girl toys, PINK?

Do they realize that as girls, we have a much better sense of color and fashion then to have everything in monochrome? I understand the pandering to the male market --- but where is it stated that everything "girly" must be pink? Why aren't all boy toys in blue?

Isn't it rather like being branded? Or have to wear the scarlet letter?

"For your crime of being a girl, we, the MegaloManiac Corporations sentence you to a childhood of nothing but pink pink pink!"

It's worse then racial profiling, because at least with that, there is legal recourse. It's worse for the girls! After all, what are we going to do? Sue the toy makers for making pink toys?

It's like in all of the board games and toy commercials, there is always a boy and a girl playing --- and the boy is always winning. Because they pander toward the males --- thinking that they have a greater buying potential...

What many of them fail to understand, is that the reason why boy toys sell so well, is because girls buy them too. Girl toys would sell better if they didn't make everything pink. Look at the Pokemon phenomenon! Cute, fuzzy, cuddly creatures, but because not everything was in pink, and there was the "battle" aspect of it, boys picked up on it immediately.

However, any cartoon that is targeted for girls, it's immediately done in pink pink pink. Why? Look at Barbie! She is single handedly keeping the pink paint makers in business! Instead, why not create the Barbie cartoon, that instead of it being a blonde bimbette in a jeep going on adventures like "Sale Shopping", give her a brain and an actual purpose to her life? Why not make her a super smart "secret agent" that is using her brains to right all the wrongs in the world? And since she's so smart (and has so many outfits), she can be a doctor one week, and a Professor the next. Still selling lots of dolls and outfits - but with enough action and a decent plot and story, this hackneyed old doll, has a brand new market. Not only of little girls that are unwittingly brainwashed into pink servitude, but also the little boys that will be hooked on the action, and realize that, yes, girls can also kick ass!

Isn't that better then playing to the stereotype? And if they make the cartoon good enough, and with some action in there --- it will EASILY win over the boys as well. They don't care if it's a girl or not (hey, the Cover Girl and Mary Jane GI Joes were in the collection of every boy that *I* knew, growing up) as long as it's action packed and fun!
