Wow...we really have come a long way baby. Finally women are no longer required to be barefoot and pregnant and in the kitchen --- instead, we're now just fluff-brained Barbie dolls, good for nothing more then being a fashion plate.
Almost makes me wonder if within each of these macho male reporters - lies a deep desire to play with his sister's dolls as a child.
But I digress.
By no means am I a Bush supporter, but this morning I read an article about Laura Bush. Or more accurately, about her wardrobe...and what they might possibly mean for Washington. Really! Are we reduced to nothing more then analyzing a woman's shoes to determine her stance on abortion, education and gun control?
She's wearing black pumps - it's a sure sign that she is for the death penalty. Wait! She's wearing sandals now...that means she's pro-censorship...
What is most amazing, is that during Hillary Clinton's run for the New York Senate seat - more attention was paid to her clothing then to the actual issues on hand. Heaven forbid that we should listen to what a potential future senator may say about the environment --- without first finding out if she's wearing a pink or green blouse under her suit!
Never has this much attention been focused on the male candidates - nor the husbands of the female candidates. However, the women in the election - whether running for office, or married to a politician, has her entire wardrobe analyzed, and never are her views published without a tantalizing description of what she is wearing.
But I suppose these reporters and editors are right. Who in the right minds would vote for a woman just based on the value of her ideas and the power of her words? No woman has the right to be known for the strength of her morals - but rather what type of shoes she wears with her dress.
Besides, I'm sure it's easier to write about what a woman is wearing and what political viewpoints that may possibly mean, then actually ASK her what her viewpoints are. I guess no one has yet realized that underneath all those clothes, is a real live human being - one that is more capable of vocalizing her ideas, then her periwinkle blue Chanel suit.
