Scene 2

Framing shot. We see a simple and primitive campsite for two people. The camera pans around to show a pair of small tents, clothes drying on a line, etc. but nothing more than would fit in a pair of back packs. Finally, we see Mia, sitting at a tiny table examining some archaeological samples and writing in a notebook. Also on the table is a paperback book bearing the title, "The Legend of The Eyes of Death."

Lucy: (from off screen): "Mia, come quick....I've got something....Mia!"

Mia gets up and hurries off in the direction of the voice.

Scene 3

A wide angle shot showing Lucy sitting in a hole about a foot deep and three yards on a side. Strings divide the hole into a grid of 18 inch-wide squares. Lucy is scraping nearly dry clay from something protruding up from the clay. Mia approaches.

    Mia: "You found something?"

    Lucy: "Bones....Human bones....A hand ...Look!"

Mia: "Wow" (she rushes in to see)

Scene 4

A clkose up of a clay-encrusted skeleton of part of a human hand. About an inch of the distal end of a fist is exposed above the clay.  fist is tightly clenched We see Mia using a probe to remove more of the surrounding clay.

Lucy: "Now this is really weird.... Look at how tightly packed the clay is around where the flesh was located...I think it would be more losely packed if it was thrown in around a body....This clay had to be liquid at the time the body was buried."

Scene 5

Shot of both girls talking to each other.

Mia: "You mean it was quicksand?"

Lucy:"Well not in the strictest sense....it isn't sand....but yeah....it was wet, liquid, and deep....call it quick clay."

    Mia: "Ugh!"

Lucy: "Some poor victim of a terrible accident....what a horrific way to die."

Mia: "Perhaps it was some sort of ritual sacrifice. I was just reading about a local legend....something about an evil eye or eyes called the eyes of death. Anyone who looks upon the evil eye is doomed to die horribly and soon."

Lucy: "The fingers look like their grasping something."

Mia: "Here....Give me that probe, I'll dig at it for awhile."

Lucy: "Here, try this, it should work better" (she hands Mia a hocked probe.)

Mia: "Thanks" (she takes the probe and quickly pops three roundish stones out of the skeleton hand. She hands these up to Lucy) "Let's get these cleaned up."

Mia: "Do you have any idea what those stones are worth?"

Lucy: "Not that much in cash, I should think, but both our doctorates at least....No one really has given the Eyes of Death story much credence until now....Now we know the story really has a basis in fact."

Mia: "Yeah, well it better not have too much basis in fact or we're supposed to die horribly and soon."

Lucy: "You don't believe that stuff any more than I do....I just meant that the story is a genuine one, not that it represents fact."

There is a rumble of thunder in the distance.

Mia: "Come on, let's break camp and hit the trail before that storm breaks."
