About the time I first became an Ultrafractal user, quite a few of the artists were taking advantage of one of the program's unique features - a provision for creating realistic looking eggs and spheres. 
This involves creating a fractal image using normal techniques and then "mapping" it onto the surface of a sphere or egg.
