"SUNRISE IN THE WILDERNESS"
I awake in the morning,
to the songs of the birds,
their whistling and chirping,
to beautiful for words.
The sun shining pale yellow,
warmly on my face,
awakes me so softly,
from night's tender embrace.
Probing fingers of sunlight,
through the trees they do trace,
slender shadows of branches
as delicate as lace.
Tiny droplets of water
glistening like small pearls,
moisten each gentle grass blade
until morning unfurls.
A mist over the water,
morning's fog so light,
assending into heaven
then descending at night
A mirror of blue water,
the surface is broken,
a fish catching his breakfast,
the lake has awoken.
White spots on a brown background,
camouflage a young deer,
he has come to the water,
his mother so near.
She adores him with one eye,
never out of her sight,
the other looks for danger,
any motion so slight.
Little rabbits in bushes,
tiny eyes winking black,
not a sign of commotion,
'cept noses tweeking back.
Mighty eagle soars over,
all critters disappar,
they're all hidden in safety,
knowing mother is near.
Of the places so many,
which a person might go,
none could be so beautiful,
as this place I love so.
Way out in the wilderness,
where man does not belong,
you'll find these things natural,
God helps them get along.
