"This painting is from the 'Seven Paintings in Seven Days' series. Most people are aware of the significance of the restaurant sit in during the civil rights movement of the '60's, but are unaware of the subtle reality of racism that exists today. In Boston one night, I went out with friends and we were denied access to certain clubs for bogus reasons (such as "no brown shoes except for Doc Martins"). We were convinced that it was really because of our race.
"The experience reminded me of the sit-ins were black men went to restaurant were black were "not served" and refused to leave. The similarities between the two events served as the primary inspiration for the piece."
