Decamaron Giovanni Boccaccio, Guido Waldman (Translator) Oxford University Press: 1993An entertaining series of 100 stories told in a country villa outside the city of Florence by ten young noble men and women seeking to escape the plague. This work provides a vivid portrait of people from all stations in life during the Middle Ages. A precursor to Chaucer's Cantebury Tales, and very similar in structure, The Decamaron is at times amusing, witty, and even outright twisted. My ReviewI have just started this book. As it is nearly 1000 pages, it may be a while before I can add much more to it. This is one of those works that I have long had on my "To Read" list, but never managed to sit down and get going. I will update this page as I plow through it. Also, check out the on-line version of this work translated by John Florio (1620).Related Titles
