Beyond This Point There Be Dragons

1999 30.3 x 35.5" ~ 77.5 x 89 cm Acrylic Painting

In ancient times people believed that the world was flat. Under the precarious conditions that sailors endured many ships were lost at sea. In order to explain this in a way that people could come to terms with, it was said that the ship had sailed over the edge of the world, and landed in a hostile environment where dragons dwelt waiting to devour the helpless crew. You can actually see written on some ancient maps the words, "Beyond this point there be dragons."
